Lille Art Up! 2025: A Celebration of Colour and Creativity

I had the pleasure of attending Lille Art Up! 2025, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience. Held at the Lille Grand Palais, the fair showcased an incredible range of contemporary art. This year’s theme, Liberating Matter, brought a fresh and dynamic perspective to how artists are using materials in innovative ways.

What struck me most was the sheer vibrancy of the works on display. I encountered truly breathtaking and colourful pieces: bold abstract paintings bursting with energy, intricate sculptures playing with light and texture, and even digital installations that immersed me in worlds of colour and motion. The atmosphere was inspiring, and every gallery offered something unique—choosing a favourite was impossible!

Before diving into this artistic explosion, I made a quick stop at Le Ch'ti Bazar, where I indulged my love of sewing. I found some beautiful fabric scraps and a few perfect charms for my next projects. This little detour into the world of tactile creativity was such a joy—and afterwards, I was fully ready for my plunge into the world of contemporary art with Lille Art Up!

Among the works that caught my attention were those by Didier Engels, who fuses images of shipping containers; Coussée, with vibrant bursts of colour and fascinating characters; and Lalou Kraffe, whose exquisite paintings truly captivated me.

Lalou Kraffe is an artist who elevates femininity through delicate, expressive floral compositions. Her work is defined by rich, deep palettes, often enhanced with gold or bronze finishes, giving her pieces a precious, timeless quality. She explores themes of nature, elegance, and feminine power, creating paintings that are both poetic and powerful. Observing her art, one senses a harmony between softness and intensity—an ode to beauty and emotion.

I also loved the Revelation by Lille Art Up! exhibition, which spotlighted emerging artists. It was fascinating to see young talent pushing the boundaries of creativity, and I left deeply inspired by their fresh approaches. Three artists stood out to me in particular:

  • Johanna De Conninck – Her work plays with light and shadow to create immersive installations that challenge the viewer’s perception. The way she manipulates materials to transform space was simply enchanting.

  • Morgan Bisoux – By blending traditional painting with interactive technology, Bisoux invites the public to engage with art in an entirely new way. It was fascinating to see the fusion of digital and physical media give birth to dynamic, engaging works.

  • Natalia Dominguez – Through explorations of cultural identity and materiality, Dominguez’s work fit perfectly within the Liberating Matter theme. Her art, both deeply personal and universally resonant, invited reflection on heritage and transformation.

Beyond the visual immersion, the fair also offered valuable insights into current trends in contemporary art, through discussions and guided tours. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the artists, discover their creative processes, and witness the constant evolution of modern art.

If you’re a fan of contemporary art—or if you simply enjoy being surrounded by creativity—I highly recommend visiting Lille Art Up! next year. It’s an unforgettable experience, full of inspiration and artistic brilliance.
